Keyline Design

Developed by Australian engineer, P.A. Yeomans, Keyline® Design is a design framework that integrates agroforestry, terraces, ponds, and the use of a Keyline® plow to subsoil compacted and degraded farmland with the intention of improving water infiltration and evenly distributed water storage in the soil.

More information on this design framework can be found here.

Yeomans Plow

The Yeomans Keyline® plow is a type of subsoiling plow that is uniquely engineered to break up deep subsurface compaction, known as a plow pan or hard pan, while minimizing disturbance to the soil surface. In doing so, we can improve water infiltration, plant root penetration, gas exchange, and nutrient cycling, which all work in benefit of the soil biology.

Our 3-shank plow has additional attachments that can be used for a wide array of applications, including:

  • Seed hoppers that convert the plow into a seed drill while subsoiling.

  • Fertilizer boots for application of liquid or solid fertilizers including compost teas, bio fertilizers, and biochar.

  • Pipe layer that can lay up to 500’ of poly pipe on a single spool in under 20 minutes to depths up to 18”.

Our Services

Option 1: Contract Work

Hire Noah for Keyline Design consultation, farm design and/or business planning. We will work with you to develop a design specific to your property and put it into action.

Note: there must be access to a 60+ horsepower tractor onsite to utilize the plow..

Option 2: Rent the Plow

Our plow is available for rent for your own use on your own property, without our consultation and design involvement. 60+ horsepower tractor is required to utilize the tool. Depending on the terrain and rockiness of the site, subsoiling rates typically range from 5-10 acres/day.

Option 3: Host a Demo

We are happy to work with farmers and landowners who are interested in hosting an educational demonstration day for the Yeomans plow. You can charge attendees a fee for registration to the event which can be used to offset the cost of the above services. This can be an opportunity to learn for yourself and to give other farmers in your area the opportunity to learn about the tool and its applications and benefits.
